Gazeteciler Cemiyeti, 10 Ocak 1946’da gazeteciler Mekki Sait Esen, Niyazi Acun, Aka Gündüz, Bilal Akba, Adil Akba, Sebahattin Sönmez ve Muvaffak Menemencioğlu tarafından kuruldu. Cemiyetin kuruluş amacı, basın organlarındaki gazetecileri bir araya toplamak, mesleki ve sosyal hakları geliştirmek, mesleğin gerekliliği olan hak ve özgürlükleri savunmak olarak belirlendi.
